Default MCR Install

Pricing Manual Compression Releases.

I looked at Big Boyz and they are $40 for machining and $40 for releases. I have to deal with downtime while shipping back and forth.

Local Shop $290 if I pull the heads, $690 if they pull them.

Does anyone know of a machine shop somewhere around the San Francisco Bay Area that does good work?

...or does anyone rent out Jim’s tool so I can just drill them out myself?

If I had someone local that could do it for Big Boyz price that would be great.

It starts a little slow mostly when hot and kick back every once in a while.

New battery and it stays on the tender.

The other part is I kinda want to put the .030 Gasket on and bump up the compression a tad.

You're on the right track. I personally believe anything more than 88" is too much on any HD starter (within typical compression values, of course). When I built my dad's 95" it was 9.5:1 with stock heads and flat tops with a brand new battery and all connections between starter and battery and it still cranked slowly. S&S EZ-Start cams made quick work of the issue though.

You could give Jim @ Metal Dragon in Hayward a call and see if he can help you out. 510-885-9471

Does anyone make a lever to attach to the MCR button ? Don't like burning my fingers on a hot restart.

$290 if you bring the heads in sounds crazy. It should be right in line with those prices you got for Big Boyz at any real shop. There's a local shop in Vacaville but that would be a 45 min stretch for you. Try RC cycles in Hayward.
The releases themselves are usually $30-$50 a piece depending on what kind you get. You can shop around online and get them even cheaper. I would recommend those with the plastic cap, usually offered in any color. I had a friend all about chrome go with chrome cap ones and those are what burn the sh*t out of your finger on a long day of riding.
As for the machining it its quick and easy for them and I think the going rate around here is $40 a pop.

For $290, you could purchase the HD Screamin' Eagle Mechanical Compression Release Machining Fixture and do it yourself.

I’ve never burnt my fingers.. Shouldn’t really happen, especially when wearing gloves
