I am trying to help a friend out. He has a 2003 Heritage, Last year head had the cam chest redone with the screaming eagle upgrade, new cams, lifters bearings and push rods
We rode last summer and it was fine.
The other day he said he heard a noise, like a rubbing noise. I haven't heard it for myself yet. He took the cam cover off and says the outer chain is hitting the cover.
If this is true, can anyone give me a clue as to what would cause this?
Which SE upgrade? Hybrid or complete '07 up? I can only see one spot where the outer chain might make contact with the cover and that would be at 9:00. The chain would have to be pretty loose to make contact but I suppose it is possible. So, maybe the tensioners are worn of not functioning as they should to maintain adequate tension? You will probably spot the problem as soon as you take a look.
It is the SE upgrade kit. I am going to head over and take a look at it myself tonight. I looked at some pictures online and I agree that could be the only spot I think it could even remotely hit. yet I don't think this is the issue. If there is any type of issue I am leaning more towards a bad lifter
I have yet to hear it for myself...He decribed it as a rubbing noise...hell my Fat boy has made a rubbing noise forever..these motors are just noisy
Depends on miles he has put on it, the screaming eagle upgrade is a joke. and not an upgrade unless you consider half an upgrade an upgrade. The inner is still a link chain. If it is the front chain, something broke or came loose. Would not surprise me if it's the inner if he has put 20K on it.
