Make sure the rockers are not hitting the rocker covers. Had that problem before and sounds the same. Loosen the rocker boxes and see if it starts and runs better. Might need to clearance the rocker boxes.
As an aside, not sure what it means, but when running it-testing-the front plug is black...not sooty, and the rear is normal..maybe a little lean, but not much.Pulled the tk./fuel pump again and chkd. all that over again.Looks good to me.I'm at a loss here. Also went and bought a new battery just to eliminate that.Same result.
Did you pull the rocker covers just to see if it runs with them off or just to verify everything is moving correctly and not binding?? Sounds like something is keeping the valves from closing all the way.
On an RnR of the rocker box, you won't have a rocker cover problem with stock rockers. Rollers? Indubitably.
I agree with that statement. That was my problem. They only reason I suggested it was because it sounds like its running or not running the exact same as mine did. HHmm powder build up on the inside of the rocker box?? Could the rocker box be installed a bit off and cause the stock rocker to hit?? just asking questions

Rollers cause issues with the covers. PC is typically not much more than 0.020 thick and it would have top be on the web near the valve. Covers are pretty generous side to side. I've done a more then a few boxes in the past. In my experience the only issues I've seen with TCs is roller rockers in the top cover. The lower cover can have issues when the heads, valve springs, valve stem protrusion are changed.
