Is it better to purchase upgraded heads, say from S&S, Fuel Moto and or the others or just have the heads you have reworked? I have a 2016 rushmore 103 and I plan to go 110". Thanks.
well, that sorta depends
from a quick and sometimes lesser cost, buying after-market makes more sense. the reason, they have R&R dollars and the castings are made for the application so there is plenty of material left for strength.
i am not familiar with today's evo heads but in times past, hd heads were iffy and poor quality and when machined left weak spots sometimes having to be welded up and then cut. then you have the person/shop that does the work. also, does the shop have a flow bench?
then there is a warranty ?
i have done my own in the past without the benefit of a flow bench, seat of the pants approach from research on what others did, so i cannot def say it was a hit but the butt dyno is not accurate to begin with.
First do you have a good machine shop you use? One that has a proven track record. most after market heads are very good as long you stick with the name brands.
We have several tuning shops who are HDF sponsors and contribute to this section of HDF. Simplest thing to do is pick up the phone and have a chat. Must be cheaper to have your heads ported than buy new ones....

I responded to this on HTT.
Scott
I have to give my support to Kirby and Scott, new S&S and Screaming Eagle will go 1200-1400 plus tax and will not flow like a set of heads from these guys that will match your build, Specifically the cam......... there is no "One design Head fits all".. It's a no brainer....
