Hey guys new to the fourm, so heres what i have going on. I just bought a 2000 road glide carburetored model. It has no power on the bottom end with a rough idle and randomly dies if i try to give her the juice.... This thing is a dog, i ran a compression check and got 155 in both cylinders. It has fresh gas in it. Then to top off the strange running conditions today i got on the highway and just gave her hell. Got up to 4th gear and went to give her WOT and the bike just died.... coasted to the side of the road and it starts back up. Get back on the road and gave it WOT to try and repeat the problem.... bike does again but this time blew the ignition fuse. Replaced fuse with spare and get started again, now its running very rough and almost sounds like a dead cylinder but i have spark to both.... any suggestions would be awesome
basics, check for vacum leaks, check for proper fuel flow, maybe remove and clean carb and jets. confirm accel pump operation. identify whether or not carb has stock or recalibration components in it.
m
All of those checked out. But i did however find out the bike has a screamin eagle ignion moduel on it.. part # 32750-99A apparently there is recalls on this model for random cut outs at 6200 rpm?? Im going to get a stock one and see if that changes things
Rebuild the carb, make sure the petcock os flowing well. When it quits, does all power go out? You may need to replace the main circuit breaker and rebuild the wires going to it.
I still have electricall power but the engine stalls and i have to coast to a stop after sitting for a few minutes it starts back up. Ive basically eliminated all possibility of it being a fuel issue. Or intake leak. Ive narrowed it down to ignition at this point. I ordered a new ignition module and coil. Along with cam sensor. After talking with a few local HD shops, they all have the same thoughts of a ignition moduel going out causing the hiccups
Alright, now the fun part, we did some serios tearing in the bike today. Pulled the cam cover to replace cam sensor..... this bike has a S&S adams kit. Fueling 7000 oil pump, fueling plate, gear driven cams,
the whole shabang!!!!! This makes all the trouble shooting worth it considering i only got the bike for 3k... some poor guys ex wife got it in a divorce and sold it cheap to clear out the garage.... crank sensor, cam sensor, vss, and a DTT ignition will be here monday!!
