Hi the engine warning light on my 2000 Fatboy (Carburated Model) comes on and stays on for a couple of minutes and then goes off ,can come back on during a ride but will again go off . I have changed the battery and now getting 14+ volts charge ,oil pressure is good .all the lights and accessories are working .no fault codes coming up . Is it possibly a dirty CO2 sensor ? any thoughts ?
Thanks Guys ! I have checked the leads and they are tight . I have a spare set I will try them . There is a sensor in the inlet manifold(Carby Model) that i thought was an O2 sensor .I am clutching at straws as there is not theme to the warning light and no fault code
I read that the crank position sensor can make the check engine light stay on. It said to take it out and clean it and if that doesn't help then to replace it. I'd also check the spark plug wires and connectors and the other plug-ins in the wiring harness for signs of corrosion or moisture. I'm not sure just how many wiring plug-ins and sensors that bike has that are connected to the computer(?) but a wiring diagram would show them.
Good luck.
Thanks I will go through all the sensors and harness connection and replace the plug leads Running Mobil 1 synthetic oil that has only done about 8000klm , no leaks . It all started after I put the original exhaust back on for a short while and then put the Screaming Eagles back on ??
I'm in the process of going over my 09 FLHR since it left me stranded the other night at a rest area stop off the interstate for about 30 minutes. I got it back running again by wiggling the wires to the TB. After I rode home I did find a spark plug wire that I don't think was connected fully to a spark plug as they are very difficult to get on properly. I'm replacing them also.
On my 09 when the check engine light was on it would start and idle properly but would not rev up more than about +500 rpms from idle. I was pretty much clueless and only had very limited tools with me, in the dark, but thankfully I had internet access to this great forum because after a couple of searches and a little reading I got it running again in pretty short order.
If you say it's carbureted where are you getting all the sensors from. The only two things that you have for warning lights would be oil pressure and charging system. I don't understand where you're going with this, which one is it? Oil or charging? Am I missing something???????
