Need help with M8 counterbalance shaft install

Need help with M8 counterbalance shaft install. I removed counterbalance shaft to repair engine block and now need to know how to reinstall. The counterbalance shaft has two gears on it, one has a timing mark but the one under it does not.It will rotate about 8 teeth. The service manual I have shows only the top gear timing not the thinner gear.I went to harley dealership and they told just to stick it in.I did not like what they said.There must be a proper timing mark or I am missing something. NEED HELP

Are you talking about the spring loaded gear, if so, as I recall you have a small hole in both gears you align first, then lock them in position. Then install the counter balancer in the case and remove the part in the two gears holding the holes in alignment. This allows the spring loaded gear to release and keep the gears from rattling.
