Hi all,
2011 FLHTK running great.... Never any problems until today. Turned a corner and got on it (you know) and it just stalled. No warning, no backfire, not too hot, no loss of power.... It just stalled and wont start. It cranks but no vroom. Battery strong (I load tested it) Oil level is good, it has gas, kill switch is in run position, I can hear fuel pump prime. My mind goes to spark or FOB issues but I wanted to put a feeler out there to see if you have any sage advice before I dig out the repair manual and get in to it.
Ive read so many times on here where someone did 3 hours of work to have one of you say something so simple and common sense that I felt bad for the original poster. So, this is me using the old noodle and asking FIRST!
Remove a spark plug, hold the threads of the plug against some bare metal on the engine, crank it over and look for a little spark at the plug. Might need to do it somewhere darker, like in a garage or at night to see it.
Oh, and wear a glove if you don't want to have your *** handed to you from the ghost of Tesla.
Like matt said check for spark and work back from there. If you have spark then it's most likely fuel. That's assuming it's cranking.
Yup. Three things needed for combustion: Fuel, Air, and Spark. Which one is missing? Chances are the air is not the issue. The big problem is both the other two can be caused by an electrical issue. Checking for spark eliminates one of the others. If you have spark, it's fuel related. If you don't, it's spark related (duh...)
Try disconnecting the fuel line at the quick disconnect at the bottom left side of you tank. Mine worked loose a couple of times on my 08
. It doesn't fall out but it drops enough that the check ball closes off fuel flow. Push up on the chrome sleeve to release it then reengage it.
