Default Engine numbers

A question ask lot, but the online engine numbers stuff has this old dude confused.
I picked up a chopper project and the engine is a question mark. It is a Panhead on top and I was told a shovel bottom side. I was told a 76 shovel. Other bike dude says the wires coming out the front let of the engine say evo. I have the engine numbers and would enjoy some brighter impute.
Numbers are 9D50131H64.
Thanks for the input.

Well one of two things going on there, those are aftermarket cases or somebody found a custom nose cone that looks like the old generator lowerends to make it look like a pan or generator shovel. Heads are STD or S&S, they are actually shovel design and parts used but made to look like panheads, exhaust is a giveaway, pan pipes clamp on not a flange & bolt like those. Engines doesn't have a genny on the front so internals & charging system are at least 70 or later as per your bud's evo comment, shovels used that same set up. A clear pic of the number boss on the other side of the engine would help sort it.

Can't see well but looks like a 5 in a 4 case trans, may have a 5th gear in that puppy. Whoever built it used good parts and looks like they knew what they were doing, pretty clean not seeing the usual goobered up stuff.

Looks like a nice special construction motorcycle. Does it even say harley on the title? Frame is not HD. I'd expect the case to be some aftermarket shovel cases. Twisted had a good read on what it is.

Thank you
TwiZted Biker and Max, here are some better engine pictures.
The tranny is a 6 by the way. Don't know anything about the build on this bike. I plan on un 1990's the bike a bit.

The 9D and funky font on engine number leads me to believe the cases are 74” from the factory

That supports your 76 shovel theory

Yeah those are factory cases and numbers, not up on what year without a look up, mid 70's 74" unless the motors built and you won't know on that unless it gets opened up. Safe bet with all the other mods it isn't stock.

No offense if you like it, BUT I’d have to ditch that 70s style seat ASAP!

😃

I agree with Twizted and Max, looks like a quality build.
not “ goobered” 😃

Shovels and I go WAY back, 90% of us were to broke to have a bone stock one so you got good at IDing what's what for the coming mix & match festivals we had regularly. You'd be amazed at some of the bikes I've had come past me the last 40 odd years

OP, for what it's worth aside from that seat & sissy bar setup and maybe losing that fake generator nosecone that's a pretty damned clean bike as it sits, even the paints right for it.

Look up Big Red Machine bikes sometime, I'd have had one if I could have laid my hands on it, they rode great and yours is a close ringer for one.
