IIRC, the OEM nuts are 5/16" x 24, not 3/8" x24 and require a 1/2" end wrench not a 9/16". The 3/8" nut will work but could contact the pushrod tube. 5/16 x24 jamb nuts can be found at McMaster Carr.
Nope. They are 3/8" -24. I have them here with me and gone through every local fastener shop.
The issue is that this nut uses one size smaller wrench size than normal 3/8" nut.
Normal 3/8-24 nuts are easy to find but heavier and could possibly contact the pushrod tube since they have the typical wrench size.
I had problems with these nuts, but they cracked after installation. They were 3/8-24 with a 1/2" hex. I got replacement from Smith Brothers Pushrod; https://www.pushrods.net/.
hd does not sell them???
worst to worst, buy some grade 8 nuts and take down the hex. if you buy just one, the shipping would be astronomically high for the value of the nut, cheaper just to get one from hd shop, maybe even the mechanic would just toss you one from a plunder pile.

You are right, got my wires crossed. I have broken the nuts that come with the SE Quick Adjustable Tapered push rods and had to get some standard Grade 5 nuts from local hardware store and use the bench grinder to take down the flats from 9/16" to 1/2". Locked both nuts on a fastener, flats aligned and started grinding.
3/8-24 when my aluminum ones or whatever light weight funky stuff they are made of cracked i too ka 5/16 nut drilled out and re tapped it to 3/8-24 more or less original size again

That is the other way some have solved the problem. I believe the MoCo has addressed the issue and not an issue now.
