Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I bought the FXR4 in April from my buddy who owned it since new. He took extremely good care of the bike and performed the mods in my signature at 30k (currently 59k).
I want to get some HP out of this engine without spending the cost of another FXR. I can do all of the labor but interested in a stroker big bore with head work. I know twin cams but this is my first Evo.
What have you done to get 100+ HP/TQ out of your Evo?
move up to 96 inch stroker, good headwork and matching cam. if you cant do the bottom end work yourself, (case boring and crank work) you can send it to Kirby@VTwin Racing or Scott at Hillside and they can get it done for you, they both also do great headwork. after that a good pipe and carb and your good to go. keep compresion around 10-1 and without an overly agressive wrist you should have some good reliability also.

96" is a pretty hard to beat combo for a evo build and we`ve done way too many to count over the years, using your stock FW`s & going 88" is also a super good option
Sweet! Any clearance issues with the frame or tins?
no clearance issues , I went w/ the 120" as lower compression enabling me to use the stock starter , thru in a carlini torque arm to save cracking the inner primary , also added a thunder jet to smooth/carry out the mid range stronger , absolute riot to rip around on . exhaust is big important & these bassini stepped pipes work . Have had 4 fxr's thru the years & none the others could hold a candle to this one . when figuring your path these are $4000 motors , selling your complete 80" carb stator etc should bring $2000 ,,, now price stroking the stock motor & it'll become clearer good luck !
