Default Rocker noise

I’ve got a ‘14 Electra Glide that I’ve been dealing with the obnoxious 2000-3000 RPM rocker noise for about 2 years and I’m over it. I got a set of rocker lockers that I’m installing this weekend but a question occurred to me; why hasn’t anyone machined new bolts with the correct diameter shaft tapered down to correct threads? The lockers are great and inexpensive but they would need to be pressed out and replaced to remove the rocker.

That is true but how often do you think you would need to remove the rocker arm and why would you need to remove the rocker arm? Furhtermore, if there was a reason to remove the rocker arm, removal is easy and the cost to replace the Rocker Locker is $15. Wouldn't you want to eliminate the noise and deal wtih removal if/when it became necessary?

I agree with everything you’re saying. It was just a thought I had since this is such a prevalent problem on so many twin cam motors. I’m not arguing the value or ease of the lockers, I was just reflecting that a properly machined bolt would be even easier. Do you own stock or something? I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. 😜

I have been posting on this forum for about 15 years; you can't hurt my feelings. Your OP read like the fact that R/R of the lockers would be required to R/R the rocker arms was giving you cause to pause on installling them; apparently I read it wrong; my bad. Rocker Lockers are a slick solution; however the problem existed long before they came on the scene. There were less sophisticated solutions back in the day, most of which have been forgotten. I do agree a properly maching fastener would be a great idea but even if the HD rocket scientists in the HD R&D department came up with it, the HD bean counters would never allow it.

The tolerances of the HD rocker supports would mean a different custom bolt for every setup.... the costs would be way out of line. Believe me, it's been checked into It's no doubt why HD put so much slop in there in the first place.

Now wait a minute, let’s not get HD involved. If they had their hand in the development it would be $19.95 per bolt lol. I knew I didn’t hurt your feelings, just having a little fun. My post was nothing more than a curiosity. I just can’t wait for the tick to be gone.

Y’all are just gonna send me farther down the rabbit hole. I’m definitely installing my rocker lockers, but I will measure them with the micrometer to see if a bolt is available. After shipping you probably be 3x more than the lockers.

Right, but you wouldn't have to R/R the lockers to R/R the rocker arms.
