Default Keep the lifters?

Hello,

Having a Dyna 2006 (TC88) with 15.000 miles on it, and being about to switch cam to Andrews 26h, (together with the Fueling oe+ cam plate, oe+ oil pump and S&S adjustable pushrods), I now have a question:

Should I replace the stock lifters (B-lifters)? At least on one of them I have discovered some wear - not much really, but there is a slight trace on the roller:

Is this acceptable wear?

If not and replacing the lifters is the way to go, I wonder which to chose.

I read somewhere that Fueling recommends their lifters if you have a Feuling oil pump. But then I read good things about S&S too.

If someone of you will share experiences in this matter it will be much appreciated.

Best Regards
Oak Mountain Rider

Throw those in the trash. Lots of options I choose these last fall for my Andrews 48 install.

Get rid of them and get some decent lifters. I personally would not put it back in.

Replace them. You’re already there, ~$200 lifters now is better than dealing with bad lifters, opening the cam chest back up and possibly ruined cams later.

I have S&S lifters going in my bike tomorrow because I couldn’t get Fuelings to go with my Fueling cams. The guy I have doing the cam job highly recommended I replace them, when I told him I have 24k miles on my bike. He said he has seen OEM HD lifters fail at 20k, and more often at 30k... and he considered anything after 25k miles on OEM lifters borrowed time.

I would never install used lifters with a new cam. Bad practice.

Hi, thanks all!

I just made up my mind and ordered the S&S precision lifters. Hope they will get along with the Andrews cam.

Those OEM original lifters are good ... for tossing over your shoulder in front of a tailgating car!
H-D MoCo cheaps out an a bunch of stuff - lifters being among them.

Yep, now I have S&S precision lifters and S&S pushrods, Andrews 26H, Fueling camplate and oil pump and it runs better than ever. Although it is said that the B-type lifters which I had are better than the later C-type, I decided to go for the S&S as the rollers were a bit traced.

One thing I noticed was that the S&S lifters have a bigger hole in them, so I guess it will be a higher flow of oil. Another thing I noticed when replacing the lifters, was that Harley had installed them with the holes facing outwards, whereas the Harley manual for Dyna 2006 recommends inwards. Anyway I put the holes inwards now.

I would like to add that I am very satisfied with the Andrews/ Feuling and S&S stuff I installed. Also installed an oil pressure gauge and now, (compared to before when the red oil light went on occasionally), I have 18 PSI at 1000 rpm hot idle.

No reason they would not work with any CAM. Any good aftermarket Lifters , SS& and others beats any HD lifter.

I know a guy who dated a girl who had a brother who knew a guy who had a brother-in-law who worked at a gas station who said that he met a guy who had a Harley with stock lifters and cheap engine oil that he only changed every 15,000 miles ... whether it needed it or not! That bike had 200,000 miles on it and ran a 10-second quarter mile ... two up!!!

OK, I made that all up ... especially the part about the lifters.
