Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I’ve got a 06’ FXDLI 88TC that just started knocking real bad, out of nowhere. Go figure, seeing as summer just hit.
I’ve been wanting more power for a while anyways, so heavily contemplating an engine swap. Time wise, hoping it’s the quickest solution.
What kind of problems will I encounter if I drop in a low mileage ‘14 FXDL 103tc? I’ve also been looking into a CVO 110tc swap, any reason to pick one over the other? Always hear great things about the 103’s, but open to suggestions as well.
My ‘06 has a thunder max ecu, stock throttle body, stock 6 speed tranny. All will be swapping over.
I put a 103" from an '09 FLHTP on mine. Very straight forward swap. I did upgrade to the Screamin' Eagle compensator ,and changed the stator and voltage regulator to an '08 model Dyna unit to match the new alternator rotor. The '06 charging system is one of the original weak points for that year anyway, so might as well do it while you've got it apart. The '08 Dyna stator coil is the correct diameter to match the rotor on the 103 and 110, and will plug right in to your wiring harness with no modifications. Your stock throttle body will bolt on later engines. If the 110 can be had for close to the same money, I'd go with that just for the extra cubes, but wouldn't spend a lot more for it. Good luck with your project.

thanks much for the advise, sounds simple enough. Fixing the weak points while I’m in there sounds like the move as well. Appreciate it!
