Default EVO question

Bought this Evo as a project are these splines going to work or do I need a crank. Previous owner didn't know much about how this happened. I can see the seal needs replaced but not sure if the splines will cause me trouble? Thanks guys.

Useable or not

If it's '86 or earlier, you can replace that shaft. If it's newer you'll need a new wheel or set of wheels. Either way, those splines are beyond done. And no, that is not a common wear thing.

Would have to have all the other parts in hand to make a guess as to how that happened.

Since you "bought it as a project"...I suspect there's a number of things that need restoring/replacement. That's one of them.

While t150evj is correct, you may want to assemble the splines with some red locktite and see if there are any other issues with the motor.. If so, you can think about going to a reman motor or even new aftermarket.. Get it running and go from there..
