I took a short video of my 2001 Road King , it has a big bore kit, gear drive S&S cams, etc.
I think the bike has always sounded like this, but is the noise in the top end area just normal operation? The bike is loud with true dual fishtails so i had to get right beside it to pick up the other sound.
Is this a new build that has been through break in and tuning? I can hear the noise; not normal and sounds like rocker arm noise from valve train lash. 2001 ran double wound straight springs and with hihger lift cams the springs could come in contact with the rocker cover. If roller rockers, for sure the rocker covers need to be clearance in the corners. Pull the rocker cover and look for witness marks from contact. I had to clearnce rocker covers for .600" lift cams in a 2002 motor because of contact.

Nah not a real new build it's been done a year or 2. Is the rocker thing a big deal? Ok to ride it some?

Thanks
Well, if not a new build, probably not what I suggested as the source of the noise. I would still pull a rocker cover and take a look. Also check for loose pushrod. Apparently the noise is new, so I would not ride until I found and addressed the source of the noise.
So, if you are far enough away and can't hear the "not normal" noise, it's OK to ride until something breaks and you can't ride and you have to spend money so you can ride again? C'mon man, two of us have told you the noise is unusual and should be investigated and others will likely tell you the same. However, it's your ride so do what you want; I can only tell you what I would do in the same situation.

Nah I agree with you. I was just saying that to give more info. I'll ride my evo for now, til I get the road king looked at.
