Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
The newer Tman grinds aren't aggressive like some of the woods cams. There's really no reason to go with a cam that moves the torque to the left if run at the right compression. An IVC around 40ish with a CCP of 200psi is as far left as I would go.
The woods 6H would be good.
Woods 6H was on the list as well. Highly recommended by Hillside when I installed Andrews 21s if doing a cam change. Or keep the 21s and go to 9.6CR and/or different rockers to add to the lift. Im doing headwork anyways so Id rather take advantage and change cams for higher lift if that was the case. I havent called Bob directly but I havent found a 99-06 6H grind online anywhere so it wasnt on the list. Everywhere Ive found with Woods or Cyclerama cams that stock them are all 07-up which lead me to this thread and a different cam choice.
No conversion cams here. I already have hydraulic camplate setup for 99-06 style cams and bearings. That being said Im most likely going with the TMan 580PS. 10.2:1 is target.
If anyone is interested I have an Andrews TW26A cam set with only a few thousand miles on them for $125 including shipping in the lower 48. This is for the 99-2006 TC engines.
The cams work super with stock or the 96&98 cu. in. bored out cylinders, especially for heavily loaded bikes, pulling trailers or having a side car. The TW26A cams enhance the low end and midrange torque where most drivers need it.
On my 95” running 9.8:1 compression(stock pistons), a very half *** dyno tune,an old 2-1 pipe with a white brothers e series muffler, HDSP street port heads and a big sucker breather I got 105hp/104tq. Zero problems with starting or pinging on mid grade gas.
As a note, this was with an intake leak and a very shitty tune with almost no effort, put into tuning the bike at all. Since then I’ve added a Fuel Moto R/T 2-1 as well as fixed the intake leak and she runs a lot stronger but I don’t have a tuner that I feel would spend the time to actually tune the bike instead of just throwing it on the dyno like the last tuner did.

If you're having trouble finding cams in Canada it looks like Fortnine has the S&S 570 and 583 and can get them to you fairly quickly. They probably have others as well. I've also gotten Andrews cams through them.
