Hello, First post here and i'm not even sure this is the right area of the forum to post this problem. As the title says I have and 2006 Street Glide and here is what is going on....Coming to a stop when the bike idles down pulling the clutch in sometimes it will randomly just shut off, Hit the starter button fires right back up like nothing ever happened and goes down the road perfectly fine. When it does shut off it seems to pop through the intake and can smell gas like its loading up. I'm about tired of chasing this and soon you will realize why....
A little info on the bike when the problem randomly started. Bike was basicly as people consider "stage 1 Harley" Rinehart Slip-ons, Big Breather kit, and a Screaming Eagle tuner. Bike Has just under 30K
Since I have started chasing this problem the following parts have been added/replaced on the bike and nothing has changed
-New Idle Air Control
-Everything in the tank has been replaced, Lines, Pump, Pressure Reg, Filters
-S&S 510 Cams
-Adjustable Pushrods
-S&S Lifters
-Pro Dyno Tune ( The tuner checked all sensors and zero fault codes were found on the ecm)
-S&S True Duals
-Screaming Eagle Big Breather
-Multiple Sets of plugs and wires
Any new ideas opinions things to look for is greatly appreciated.... Again I do apologize if this is the wrong area to post this in
This may sound stupid but it happened to me with after market plug wires.
Make sure your plug wires are snapped on to the plugs.
I had one that the boot would come loose but not off.
It was just barely making contact and at idle would run rough and die.
First make sure your battery is load tested and those connections are clean and secure. Then as stated check for codes, many youtube videos on how to do that, then report back.
Thanks for the replies everyone ima going to get to checking the VSS... But as i said in the original post zero codes faults on the ecm according to the tuner who open source tuned the bike
As you probably know, the crankcase venting is dumped into the intake behind the air cleaner.
This oil-rich vapor is what causes a buildup on the intake and on the IAC sensor.
With the air filter off, wipe a clean rag in the intake and around the butterfly flap.
That same gunk is on the IAC sensor which is mounted right above/behind the butterfly.
Look in the intake tube, at the 12:00 position.
You'll see a small hole.
Shoot some carb cleaner up into that hole.
Don't be stingy with it.
Then button it up and ride.
This is why I ended up adding an external breather/catch can; to avoid disassembling and cleaning the intake every 1,000 miles.
