Default Cams installed?

Hi everyone,
I will try to make this short. a few months ago I purchased a 95 softail custom . I decided to have a cam and carb installed so I brought it to what well known motorcycle mechanic near me. When I picked it up I first noticed the bike was popping on decel and just didn't seem to run right and I didn't notice any increase in power. I am mechanically inclined I just never got involved with installing a cam on an evo motor. I started questioning the way to work was done so I started to look into it a little. I noticed the cam cover looked like it was never taken off .the rivets were there and when I opened it up screws were rusted inside like they've never been taken apart yet I looked at the cam and it is different than stock but had the stock sprocket on it. now I don't know if it was already done when I bought the bike. The pushrods had been changed also.because there was oil and fingerprints on the covers.I was curious if the cam cover has to be removed or is there a trick in doing the job another way. Also requested the bearing changed.
Makes me sick thinking like this but I have to try to find out before I take the next step. Any info appreciated.thanks for reading .Todd

Cam cover must be removed to replace a camshaft in an EVO engine. And depending on the exhaust you are using, the exhaust would likely need to be removed too in order to remove the cam cover.

It was fairly common practice to reuse the original cam gear by pressing it off the original cam and onto the new cam. It is also strongly advised to replace the hydraulic lifters and inner cam bearing. The new cam will have different (from the OEM one) markings to identify it, so it you removed the cam you should be able to identify it.

Pictures may help to solve some of your questions.

So what cam and carb? Did you do anything with an air cleaner and pipe upgrade?
