Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
ive had this bike nearly 10 years. 12 Ultra Classic, 103, TTS100 cams, ThunderMax ECM, no cat, baffled exhaust . I have literally replaced everything on the bike; new CVO TWG, Injectors, Map Sensor, Tank Innards, everything that bolts onto the motor and tranny.
Iget about a 1/4 from the house and the bike acts like its gonna die. I get turned around, give it everything its got and it runs like it should. I start slowing and it acts like its gonna die again.
This issue started earlier this summer, and started throwing parts at it, grenade style, just to see what sticks I guess and too cheap to take it to the Harley dealer.
Could a blown head gasket make the bike act like this? I do see a little oil on the front cylinder and it does seem like it sounds like George Jetsons car if that makes sense?

anybody have any thoughts?
If you suspect a head gasket, then do a compression or leakdown test
As soon as it happens, have you simply tried to cycle the ignition to see if it restarts? The ECM may be hanging up..
I had a weird issue with a Tmax where it would occasionally shut down mainly when it was cold and at altitude. Toggling the ignition would correct it.. It would only happen once a year. I was having a weird issue with the neutral switch toggling on and off fast enough that the light would glow dimly. I finally replaced the switch and I've never seen the problem since. Sounds weird for sure but I suspect that there was a bug in the ECM software that probably caused a stack overflow and the processor would crash.. BTW, been running the current Tmax for the last 70000 miles that did the problem.
One thing you might want to do is make sure you Tmax has the latest firmware.
That may not be your problem. You simply may have a ECU that is failing when hot..
About the only other issue could be fitting on the bottom of the tank. The coupling on the line going to the injectors can become flakey.
