Default How to primary drive ?

Primary drive
Hello HD Forum

I have a 70's engine that is being torn down.........................I know that someone out here in forum world has a better plan than me. I'm making a tool to hold the inner clutch member so that I can break the 1.5" nut.
I believe that I have seen where people insert a wedge between the chain and forward sprocket to break the nut loose, but I'm not comfortable with that approach until I get confirmation that this will not damage any .
thanks again.

Primary drive

I have stuck hard plastic between chain. Pine board. I bought one the metal bars and didn't care for it. I have heard of rags, cooking boards. I use snowmobile slide, hard plastic

This is on twin cams. Check to see if either is left hand thread

Nut inside the clutch basket is left hand thread I believe, fix the inner hub in place so won’t move and try again.

Use a jam bar. I use a piece of 1/4x1xXXX lenght to go between the sprockets diagonally. You could probably go with 1/4x1 1/2x length with the 3 row chain. I don't use the wedges or steps either. IMO they put too much force on the shafts.

Yours will likely be a different length.

ltitle trickier to use. I got one manual with steps, and then one with bar.

My concern on mine was stress on tensioner pad.

Also used 2x2 to go between.

People have done it many ways.

You are supposed to remove the tensioner pad. Manual with steps is earlier. Hd goofed.
