Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Loving the hell out of this build. 103" with S&S MR103 cams. Not sure if displacement increase or cams, but the I am riding in lower RPMs than I ever would. I usually kept it 2700-3krpm. With 3k being sweet spot. Before now, with my TCs I would say never ride below that unless coasting. Seems to want to be around 2500 for most of my riding, and some times feel like I am getting caught between gears a little on highways
Have not really got on it, went to 90 once faster than before. Lots of cops on interstate lately, and lots of deer on highways. But I am happy with back country highway riding, just pulls even.
I ad to go with quickee rods per S&S for the cam. Which leads the tempemptation to just do lifters and pads, by opening cam chest. But I had one breather that was mush at 70k. Where was it going? My thoughts have been to start thinking about lifters and pads around 50, and I think I would add breather to this. i realize many people don't, I didn't, and many bikes with many more miles on stock engine. But IMO after 50k, pick a winter where you got the time and money, and ambition and just open the entire thing, I had head gasket leak too.
I also did .040 head gasket not .030. Time will tell on the starter
Of what? There are so many you tube videos and such other. Years ago, before youtube, I used to do write ups with pics. But now what is the point? A pic of some guys bike on a lift?
I am just saying I am happing with bore and cam choice. And that I left the compression little lower than many after market builds.
As said most of the build threads are just pics of bike sitting there. Very few give any detail on the process. Sort of like taking pictures of your meal.

I didn't start this thread for site seeing pics.
Would like to see video of it running to see how it sounds.
