this isn’t for me but my neighbour he has a 2018 hd road king with a124 upgrade . The problem started at the beginning of winter as the outside temperature has dropped. The bike is parked under cover but not in a garage .
He went out and tried to start it but it was back firing through the air filter , took it to a Harley shop spent 700 on god knows what , and 2 weeks latter started doing the same thing . Took it back again and they so-called replaced the seals or gaskets on the heads .it Started at the shop took it home , parked it up for the nite . Went to get on it in the morning for a ride and did exactly the same thing . This cost him another 700 and still no answer . Is there someone out there who has had the same problem. Thanks
first thoughts go to bad fuel, fuel filter issue, or an obstruction in the intake or air filter. Could be a bad air sensor, too.
The dealership removed all old fuel on the first time it happened, also replaced spark plugs . When the bike came back the second time the cone on the air filter was on the wrong way , some one there didn’t know what they were doing .

once the bike finally starts it runs fine , it’s like when the bike is hot it has no problem, it seems to be only in cold temperatures in the morning. We thought it maybe the oil as 20w50 is very thick and isn’t great in cold temperatures. But I did think about one of the sensors like you mention .
Check to see if your bike is throwing any codes. Hold down the trip reset on the clutch housing, and then turn on your ignition switch. The odometer should display codes for the ECM, etc. Write down the codes, if any, and see what it says.
The sensor I was talking about is the airflow sensor on the intake manifold.
Sounds like another incompetent dealer service department. Too many of them out there. Find an Indy who actually knows how to diagnose and fix Harleys.
