Default Proactive lifter change-

I've got 29k miles on my used CVO and don't know if the lifters have ever been replaced. I am looking at the S&S precision with the "quickie" installation kit from RevZilla. Questions:
1. Do I really need the pushrod clip installation tool?
2. Does anybody have experience with these lifters- are they decent for a stock 110?

From what I've read regarding lifter failure on 110 CVO's you're doing the right thing. The 110's have a lot of valve spring pressure which is hard on the stock lifters. Apparently the 2313SE lifters with pin oiling are the best for 110 CVO's.

No you don't need the tool for putting the clips on. I have wondered if they are worth it though

1. If you are going to replace the lifters, you should also consider replacing the cams as lifters ride on the cams.

2. If there is wear on the lifters, there may be wear on the cams.

3. At least inspect the surface of the cams for wear and or pitting.

4. If there is wear on the cams also and you do not replace them, you will be going back in to replace the cams and lifters again in a short while.

NOTE:
The above information, while credible, is worth what you paid for it and should not be considered gospel.
Do due diligence, research and have a H-D Field Service Manual before working on your bike.
You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.

Yup, I get it. As a hopeless optimist, I am hoping that I pull these things out and they are pristine. The couple hundred bucks is worth the piece of mind-

If I ever get my hands on another 110, I will do exactly what I did to the last one, plus one more step.

When mine was new, I did cams, lifters, and pushrods. I would now go the extra step, and go with some aftermarket heads like Hillside, with their valve springs to prevent any possible issues caused by the HD springs in those heads.

y.
People change lifters, without replacing cams. Lifters are somewhat of a wear item, where cams maybe not lifetime, go a lot longer. IMO lifters should be replaced, maybe every 50k on conservative side.

As for the idea as keeping them matching set, look how often some people try different cams. I suspect they are not changing lifters.

Are you using AI when you post a list of answers with a disclaimer? Chat GPT gave me this when copied and pasted the original post into it

1. The pushrod clip installation tool can make the job easier and ensure proper installation, but it's not strictly necessary. It depends on your comfort level with the installation process and your preference for tools.

2. While I don't have specific user reviews, S&S is a reputable brand known for quality aftermarket motorcycle parts. The S&S precision lifters should perform well for your stock 110 engine. Checking online forums or reaching out to fellow riders for their experiences could provide more insight.

You can swap out the valve springs to beehives with the heads still on. You just need the correct valve spring tool and pressurize the cylinder so that valves don't drop. I got mine from Nub Tools. Goodson also carries the Nub compressor.
