Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Well accidentally torqued my final head torque on my TC 96B to 22 ft lbs. instead of 17. no 1/4 turn index .Anyone done this before and not had issues?
Concerned about stretching my studs or blowing out my fire ring .
In proper sequence, 120-144 in-lb. Then 15-17 ft-lb.
Then 1/4 turn ( 90 degree) If your really worried, use a dial or beam torque wrench if you have access or a free borrow from autozone and see where it goes at 1/4 turn.
You need to start over since the 17 will be at another different point on gasket thickness. That last 1/4 turn is a bolt stretch I would assume. Not sure.
Most stretch head bolts I have worked with have a helix twist in the body.
Not sure but it appears your book or head gasket says no 1/4 turn?
