Sadly the HD Dealership in my area is closing month end, that's a whole other upsetting issue. I anticipated a massive amount of customers using the next closest place for service and as such I reached out in advance to "them" schedule an upcoming 3 hole change - no rush but wanted to make sure I wasn't waiting months type thing.
Here's my question. Since I bought my scooter new I've only had the HD Dealership that's closing service it and they used 20w50 in the engine and unless I'm totally wrong in the primary and tranny (don't jump on me for this, I don't see anything on the work orders to say they use different oils in those 2 holes) - everything is perfect, I have no complaints and stick to a 4/8 schedule for replacing fluids.
I understand all the differences between hot and cold and viscosities, I don't want this going off topic - to stay laser focused - Here's my question:
This is all I want the answer to, my bike has 26,000 km, runs like a Rolex - I don't care if HD now use another oil - why are they doing it is the question.
New dealership advise they use "The new" Syn3 15w50 in engine (stopped using the 20w50) - ok fine I don't care if that's what they tell me HD now recommends in 2025, then I'm on board. Now other two holes they say they use Synthetic gear Oil 80w140 - again fine by me if that's what HD now recommend.
I don't want dumb answers, or jokes, I know "oil" here is met with a Sigh.
Has anyone else had this new HD "engine oil" change/move suggested to them? Here (in Southern Ontario Canada <- Not for sale eh!) with colder temps in Spring and Fall I get the "15" weight but the rest of the question for those in the know is....why did HD make this change? I can't make any comments on primary or tranny oils in my bike as stated BUT I strongly believe they were same oil as was in engine in there - not positive - don't care it runs beautiful. Maybe they did use the 80w140 I don't know, I don't care.
Thanks in advance for smart knowledgeable answers, smart asses go elsewhere please.
I'm using the HD 80w-140 gear oil in the primary and for me it's much quieter and the clutch works smoother. I use a non HD oil in the trans, but I am in a much hotter climate and because that works for me.
I wouldn't worry about the changes in lubricants from the new dealer.
HD has just phased out their dino oils, and now promotes only synthetics, I would not worry. Just like oils have undergone revisions in service classification from SE in the 1970's to SP (2020) today. Oils are very sophisticated.

Thanks Paul, I guess I won't - thanks for heads up on 80w-140 - we shall see. I have the Muller Clutch Ramps, so if it gets smoother on the clutch pull that's a big plus too.

Thanks John, This is why I always say to myself, this is the best Forum on the net for HD knowledge. No matter what's asked one of or several of you gear heads know the answer for someone....today it's me. Always learning; even at 60 years of age and 44 years licensed on an MC. I appreciate you all.
How do you figure that, if my work order says otherwise?
What Im saying is how do you know the specs of the oil in the bottle are what is printed on the bottle? You dont. Even Harley doesnt know. They get it from 3rd parties.

Ahh, now I got you. Well dang, I hope what's on the bottle is what's on the inside of the bottle...imagine if the pharmacy worked on that logic!
