Default stripped threads...help!

I was changing the cam tensioner shoes on a twincam-B engine and when installing the cam support plate I stripped the #1 and #2 bolt holes in the engine case that are used to secure the cam support plate. These are the holes with the dowel rings for maintaining alignment of the cam support plate. Can anyone tell me how to remove the dowel rings? Also, what would be the best (perm-fix) way to repair these stripped holes? Thanks.
