What year, model?

What exactly was/is the problem?

The starter pinion gear engages the ring gear on the clutch outer shell.

Got it fixed. The problem was when the motor started the starter gear would not retract back far enough and was still riding on the flywheel. I installed a spacer to make the spring tighter and push the starter gear back and out the way. Cool item. Glad I got it to work right.

Glad you got it fixed, but you are still calling parts by the incorrect name. The Pinion gear does not contact the flywheel. It contacts the Ring Gear on the Clutch outer shell.

I stand corrected, Thanks. If I'm going to do my own work I should lean the right name for parts.

Question

I am wanting to install one of these LEVER ACTION STARTER SOLENOIDS on my 1986 Heritage and was wondering if you have a diagram or picture to show how the shaft from the lever attaches to the starter drive lever and where the spring etc.. go on the shaft in relation to this lever?
Thanks for any help you can supply.

Sorry I dont have any diagrams. From what I can remember the instructions that come with the handle are pretty good.
