Default Tappet problems

Has anyone had a tappet ( hydrolic lifter ) go out on an 88' Evo engine and not be able to locate the missing neetle bearings from the tappet. I've lost 3 tappets now in 140 miles and starting to think they are plugging up an oil passage but the oil idit light says I have oil pressure and I have oil returning to the oil tank and no bearings in timing compartment or tappet oil screen. Any advice would be appreciated to narow down the tear down which I should have done in the first place. Gene

Did you flush the oil lines and tank??

No I didn't but will do a complete tear down this time, I learned my lesson, wanted to ride to bad. What I don't understand is the oil comes from the tank to the oil pump than to sending unit for the oil light and than goes to the tappet bearings so I would think I had oil to tappets. Surly someone else has had a tappet go out and found the bearing pieces somewhere.

Tore her down again, didn't have a 3rd tappet out as I first thought but now thinking its in the bottom end such as pinion bearing or ????. thats causing the hammering similar to the noise a bad tappet made. When I first noticed a noise this time it was a low rumble than within seconds it did the intermetant hammering and churping noise. Found many fillings in the old oil filter so thats where the tappet bearing parts went. Cam neetle bearing look good also. looks like I'll have to pull engine and take it into the shop
