Hi all : have moved from older big Hondas to older HD .
The big Wings are just too much to handle for a backyard mechanic .
Have moved to the big HD because i have always wanted one etc. and they can be easier to work on .?
Purchased a 1990 Police Special with 70000 miles and would like to know if anyone can tell me what this motor is good for before a rebuild ?
For a 6 cyl. Wing , 70000 is very minor miles.
Thanks in adavance.
Machinehed.
Yeah, I get ya. 70K is quite a bit for a H-D w/out a top end & full bottom end clearance check. Follow regular check ups: 3-5K change oil/other lubes & filters accordingly along w/ brakes & the what not. Around 50K engine (& no offense intended, but get in the habit of calling it an engine--motor refers to an electrical operation/function) will need a good going thru...50K is fairly, standard for non modified V-Twin engine, if modified-30K is the area ya wanna start lookin at gettin it done--often a top end is enough; however, these engines don't get nearly what an opposing piston Honda gets, those engines are basically trouble free except for some oil & what not for a couple hundred thousand miles...Have met a couple of guys that really liked their GoldWings.
