Default Engine break in

Just completed a 107" up grade to the 96" TC in My 2009 Rocker C and have been reading articles on the Internet regarding easy and hard break ins. When I first got the bike I took it relatively easy for the first 50 miles and then after that oil change I rode it as though the break in was complete. That did not seem to hurt it and it has never burnt any oil. I'm leaning towards Motomans hard break in procedure this time because I'm pretty sure that it works on liquid cooled engines so why wouldn't it work on an air cooled engine.
I've read quit a few articles (including S&S and HD) and the consensus appears to be almost a draw but I would appreciate any opinions and especially was wondering if anybody had (or knows of) a catastrophic failure due to the hard break in procedure.
Thanks in advance,

I'd never do a "hard break in", mainly because the people who service the bikes say not to. If I did, it'd probably blow up.

If you want to form an opinion try this. Look up all the top mfgrs sites. Look up what each tells you how to perform an motor break in. I haven't seen one that recommends that says flog it out of the box. I doubt S@S will replaced a motor that blew apart due to the abuse you put to it, by not following their procedure. Do what you did before that worked.,,

Just ride it.
There is no magic or secret break in trick that will make it last longer or run faster.
Every once in a while over a few beers and a good smoke some they come up with some new 30-60- or 60-90 100 scam to pass off and laugh like heck at everyone that falls for it.
Ride it.

Thanks in advance,
I agree with Motoman's procedure. It's tried and true and used it for years on various
engines - air and water cooled. Heat cycles and remembering to use engine braking to
suck particle build up out of the rings are important. Just NO lugging or extended high
rpm running and it'll be broke in in 500 miles.
