I bought a chrome socket head rocker box hardware kit. my question is how do you put the bolts in on the left side (shorter bolts) there isn't enough room for a hex wrench. I assume they should be torqued but how and to what value? Can I re-use the gaskets ?

google "dog bone torque adapter" it will allow you to properly torque the rocker box covers. 120 inch lbs. you can reuse them but a leak MAY happen if you do. i suggest investing in a factory service manual from Harley it will cover EVERYTHING you need to know with very detailed pics and break down drawings

The dog bones look like they're for hex nuts. The hardware kit I have takes an allen wrench.

Harley sells a tool for the rocker box nuts. Buy it and use that.

Torque the front cover with a socket and torque wrench, to get the feel, and use the Harley wrench on the rear.

Use a new gasket.

Looks like that tool is made for stock hardware, not the chrome hardware they sell which takes an allen wrench

in that case a 1/4" drive torque wrench with the bit socket on it for using screw driver bits and then the right allen key bit, if that makes sense to you. the ones on the rear left side migth be hard to torque so do the rest first to get the feel for them and then use a regular allen key for those 3. weird though as my rocker box botls have both the allen key recess in the head as well as 7/16 socket/wrench can be used

Torque the front per Wurk Truk's post to get the feel. Cut off an allen head wrench so it will fit the new bolts. I use a box end wrench to slip over the long end of the allen and use it as an extension/handle. Try it on a couple of the torqued front bolts, to get the "feel" and then torque the allens by feel. Nothing to it.

I have reused rocker box gaskets as many as three times with not issues.
