Default Ran good then ?

99 superglide 103 motor 10.5 forged pistons 258 s.e. cams super g carb s.e. stroker flywheel 3 7/8 jugs bored .10 over jeggs oil cooler,s.e. heads, rebuild back 2009, I have read that some of you have had issues using mobil 1 syn. 20-50 I tried it for the first time an know I think I have a lifter collapsed, I was using h.d. syn for years no problems, Also notice high idle since this started, warmed it up before first ride ran great for 3 miles then noise started, good compression both cyls. any thoughts, changed oil back to s.e. syn 20w-50 still had same issues, took motor apart found 3 lifters collapsed, going to try s.e. lifters rated for cams up to .700 lift, cam I am running is a 258 s.e. with .570 lift an around 260 degree duration the old lifters had about 9000 miles om them.

Although the occurance happened after switching oil brands, I doubt if that was the root issue.
Sounds deeper than that to me.

After I swithed back to s.e. syn oil still had same problem I took it apart and found 3 of the lifters would not pump up,they have about 9000 miles on them since I rebuilt engine, I am running s.e. 258 cams in it .570 lift with a good amount of duration If I remember correctly I think around 260 degrees duration,am know going with s.e. lifters, witch are rated for up to .700 lift. runnning perfect fit pushrods s.e.

Are you using adjustable pushrods? Thats alot of cam, I would think about the liters from S&S with the shims in them. I wonder how much pressure from the valve springs are on the lifters and can they handle it. All these things going through my mind just sharing thoughts hope you figure it out, but I agree I wouldn't think the oil is to blame.

We reach for S&S lifters here when in need.
