Oil cap blows off

Default Oil cap blows off

2002 FLHT Just did a big bore kit on my 88" installed new cams lifters everything new on top end. The motor starts up runs good. But the oil cap keeps popping off. I have 40 lbs oil pressure at start up and about 12-14 lbs at warm idle. The oil pressure will build up to 20-22 lbs at idle when the oil cap blows off and i can hear air coming out of the tank. Anyone ever have this problem??????

I had it on my 131 -- what a mess -- I got a digital oil can and put two O rings on it - problem solved

I had the same problem. I installed the 17025-03A new style breathers straight out of the box. The umbrellas were upside down.

my bike is a softail but after the 124 was put in it( i did the camchest) from first fire up it blew the dipstick by my head on more than one occasion,lol!!

it was sumping.waiting to get it fixed.

Seen softails that have been overfull(oil that unknowingly gravity drained into the sump, then topped off) whack guys right in the head upon start up.

2000 Fxdwg with S&S heads. Changed air cleaner to a new design and replaced breather bolts exactly as previously installed. Blows oil cap now. Even at idle? Removed breather bolts completely, same issue. Ideas?

FWIW, update. Found out that the S&S Heads are not set up for breathing. Breather holes are factory sealed so remedy is to vent case. According to the Harley Tech, it will not cause any issues or long term damage. Small K & N filter installed at end of vent live to keep debris, bugs etc from entering. Hope this helps someone else in the future.
