Default Engine temp Sensor issue

Been working on a 97 Road king discovered I needed a new engine temp sensor. I was able to follow directions on the forum now there is a problem. Got the Tank propped up, when to unplug the sensor and the hold sensor came out with the plug however the threads on the end of the sensor are stuck in the motor. I read somewhere else this a common problem. my biggest concern is does sensor read from inside the cylinder or just screw into the head and read temps? any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks

Screw into the head and read temps. I have found a magic kind of penetrating oil. It is called KROIL. It's expensive, not available in any store, google it.

Try go riding the bike and get it nice and warm? If its drivable?
