I have a 2005 883L sportster, has anybody else had trouble with the crankshaft sensor?
Symptoms - engine warmed up, nice run at 50 - 60mph for six or seven miles slow down to a stop engine idling fine, open the throttle and nothing, just back firing, engine will not rev passed idle, after a couple of minutes able to pull away again after time the problem gets worse. The engine light comes on breifly so I did a speedo diagnostic, only code to come up was a faulty crankshaft sensor.
So I fitted a new sensor and this seemed to solve the problem (for two or three months)just had the same problem. Ordered two this time, maybe I just picked a bad spare.`
I also considered if temp was effecting the sensor so I changed to Mobil 1, a few guys had mentioned in previous posts that they experienced a temp drop, maybe this will help.
Waiting on the sensors to arrive before riding again, little nervous about breaking down altogether, it's a heavy bike to push!
Also I did check for manifold leaks and made sure the carb piston was moving.
I live in Barbados, not a Harley Tech in sight, so its just me and the Sportster.
It seemed to be a common problem for awhile that I read about on various forums. Hope you're next one last longer, I've yet to haveproblems fortunately.
Barbados you say...tell you what, you pay for me and the bike to get down there and I'll go riding with you, if you break down I'll push yours while you ride mine
