Default Lifter question

Awhile back I put new lifters in and I read somewhere that the holes should be pointing the same way as the old ones were, however, they were facing the timing cover side and not facing the cam plate. Seems to me they should be facing the cam plate.

My question is are they in wrong ? Should the holes be facing the cam plate or the timing cover side?

Havent done it myself but until someone else chimes in, can tell u
the (2000 dyna) service manual agrees with you "Install lifters.. with the oil hole on the inboard side and the flats on the lifters facing forward and rearward."

I read somewhere (and if you look at the groove that surrounds the lifter,) you'll see that you can run them either pointing in or out. But I put mine in the way the old ones came out and that happens to be pointing in toward the cam plate.

It doesn't matter which way they go in; the oil is pumped into the galley to the piston oilers regardless of which way the lifters are oriented.
