You are correct, BUT, given HD's parts availabilities for later model bikes, it would cost about $900 to $1000 in parts and labor to change either the primary ratio (via billet clutch housing with more teeth plus longer primary change) or the final ratio (via 30 vs 32T tranny sprocket), and you get only a 6.7% numerically higher ratio with either. It's the relatively high cost versus subdued benefit that is holding me back.

The bike really could use BOTH primary and final being done, which is still only roughly 13.8% and 2480 rpm at 60 mph, but would realistically cost $1800 to $2000 when all is said and done (I have no garage, a 7% grade gravel driveway, and lack some of the necessary experience).

My performance modeling software says the combined total knocks off 0.25 seconds in the quarter mile, 0.3 seconds off the 0 to 60 time, and adds 16% more power at 60 mph cruising (by moving the engine up higher into its power band). It would also make the bike much more easily maneuverable in tight spaces at walking speeds. These are all worthwhile benefits, but $1800 to $2000 for the gearing change??? Plus, if I ever needed a new drive belt without advance notice, I couldn't simply go to the nearest HD dealership, as the belt would now be a shorter one than standard for a Breakout. There would also be some loss in fuel mileage, which I was not overly sensitive to until I started planning my 2015 5500 mile tour. I currently average an honest 43 to 45 mpg.

I HAVE thought about all this. $1800 to $2000 is just too much.

You would think someone knew what they were doing when they did the heads.

As I suspected and another reason the power is down a bit. If CCP was up around 200psi, you would see more TQ/HP. Having said that, what you are seeing is a bit more conservative and, as Scott points out, nice tame compression for summer heat.

Yes, my 212 ccl is apparently a little aggressive for Central Texas, but so far so good even at 95 degrees F. I've never detected any detonation.

When it's hotter than THAT, I, let alone any bike, find the combination of over 95 degrees actual temperature plus the incredibly hot Texas Sun too much to enjoy the ride. So, in the hottest times of the summer, I only go out in the mornings when it is cooler.

hi,

bit mischievous claiming compression, summer heat for the current result

right throughout the thread the OP gave pretty clear description of what he after

Miirmu

I apologize that my post has brought you anger and frustration. I appreciated your advice on going with the SE stage iv kit. I did not go that route because I wanted american made products in my bike. HD used to be there but now they are outsourcing the work to other countries and some of their specs aren't that great.

Jim installed a full stage 4 kit which included pistons and his compression is probably higher than a 10.1......

The cam I chose was not even suggested if I remember correctly. Hillside suggested a 48 and several ppl agreed with that. DJL suggested if I want more overlap I should go with a 204. I didn't even listen to their advice. One reason being I felt the 57 was made for the 103 so it would possibly perform better.

If you compare Jim's Dyno and mine, you will see there is not much difference in power. Also (in my nonprofessional opinion) my curves are better than the SE cam. His go up and down throughout the test whereas mine are steady throughout. My Tq starts at 95 and his starts at 85. His has to be around 3300 before it gets to where I am at at 2500.

I am not knocking Jim's build. But it's not for me. If I changed pipes and changed pistons I'm positive I would outperform the SE cam.

Miirmu I appreciated your advice and agree that for simplicity, choosing a kit the MoCo has already put together works fine BC they have what works together in a package.
It just wasn't the direction I wanted to go.
