Default 92 fxrs puking oil

My fxr has been puking oil out of the crank case breather on start up. I was going to replace the check ball to see if that would fix it but can't seem to figure out how to get to it. Do I need to take the oil pump off the motor? Is there anything else besides the cap that I would need to take out? My cap won't seem to move. If someone could walk me through this I would greatly appreciate it.

No, that cap on top of the oil pump is where its at. The only way I got them off in my experience was with a wide blade shorty screw driver that slipped onto a ratchet.

The cap comes off, the spring comes out and the ball is beneath that. You might fix it by re-seating the ball by rapping it into the seat with a peen, trying that first before you replace anything.

Fairly normal on bottom breathers........ just means you need to ride more.

I've dealt with this a ton and have had 100% success by doing it like this...

1. I get 2 new check ***** and a new spring from the dealer. They're dirt cheap.

2. I remove and discard the old ball and the old spring. I spray a detailing swab (long Q-Tip on a wooden handle) with brake-kleen and swab out the seat as best I can.

3. I drop in one of the new ***** and then give it a light rap with a small hammer and a drift to reform the seat. It doesn't take much as your dealing with a hardened steel ball acting upon an aluminum seat.

4. I remove and discard the ball that I just rapped, drop in the second new ball, add the new spring, and button it up.

I wouldn't even try to guess how many times I've done it this way over the years and I've never had it not work. As always, though, your mileage may vary.
