Thanks for all of your responses gentlemen. I agree it is too high, I think the $6K figure is more reasonable that's why I didn't pull the trigger.

But from the sound of it, it sounds like the ride at higher speeds should be fine - nothing like a rigid sporty. I'll keep an eye out with private sellers too. I'm in no rush - I just liked that particular one - so cool looking

Did you try and talk them down at all?
Do you know what KBB is for that bike?

Especially because of the trade in.
I wouldn't pay that much straight out for the bike.
5k to 6k would be more like it.
Sell you my '98 for $7800 in a heartbeat.

Here's what they are selling for on ebay. Man how did I miss that Tangerine '93?

I looked on NADA - average price is in the $5-6K range - that's on the high end.

I did try and talk him down - he was firm, but I'll wander back after Christmas.

If you go from a later model softail to the evo, it will initially feel a little rough with a lot of vibration. As you get used to it and forget about the newer, it eventually feels quite smooth. Just enough vibes to give it extra character. I don't miss my twinkies at all and won't go back. Even pushing the 80 mph mark, she still handles quite well.

Beemervet, its a large indy shop, not an HD dealer. Still, he didn't want to move.

Hit him up after the first of the year, when the bike is still on his floor. I hate to say this, but he probably paid someone $$3500 - $4000 for that bike...

All I can say is Softail Customs are a really fun bike. I am 74 years old and love my 99. I have ridden a lot of Harleys and this one is the best of the lot for me. Yes, it does vibrate a bit above 70, but even at 80 shes still nice. But then, the Softail Custom is a cruiser after all and that is what she does best on the back roads. All I know is that every time I swing my leg over for a ride I am grinning ear to ear, and it takes several hours to wipe it off after the ride.
