The tap method worked great. The first attempt broke the brass fitting off about flush with the carb housing, I tapped in deeper & the second try pulled it right out.
Also, my float pin goes all the way thru in either direction, and there is no arrow on the carb. This is a late '91 bike, I got it on sale as the '92s were hitting the floor.

Thanks again.
Holding the carb upside down with the pin closest to you (of course it has to be upside down in order to be looking at the pin) move the pin to the right. It has been awhile so again if I remember correctly move the pin to the right. Some of them can be stuck pretty good. Put penetrating oil on the pin, and let sit overnight. YD
Put a carb rebuild kit in after ultrasonically cleaning it, and after 14 years she starts!
But...
It runs awesome if & only if the enrichener is pulled out all the way. If not, cracking the throttle kills it and it won't idle. I sprayed some starting fluid around the intake to see if the rpm's go up & they don't seem to.

Where to look first?

By the time you are done there won't be any need to trade it in!

Don't think that thought hasn't crossed my mind
=edit=
Upon further review.... it seems that without the enrichener all the way out, it wants to run on one cylinder. Really starting to sound like an intake leak.
