I made my own gasket many years ago out of some gasket material I had (1/32 thick fiber reinforced neoprene). I scrapped the rivets and the inner plate, bought a cast, domed timer cover and put it on with a couple of 8-32 button head screws. Been there for 21 years now and only comes off when I take it off. Still using that original gasket.
Thanks! You guys just burst my bubble! I just installed a nose cone Ultima ignition this weekend, and of course tapped the plate that the OEM nose cone cover rivets to. The holes are sized perfect for a 10-32 tap which is what I used.
Yes the posts or studs that hold the plate on are 8-32, and I reused the OEM posts with some blue Loctite. I also used some blue Loctite on the 10-32 button head screws I used to hold the thin aluminum cover to the plate (former rivet plate).
I like using the screws so I can fine tune the nose cone module when the time or need comes. (it is dynamic timed dead ***** on). Now I wonder if I need to go with rivets??? Thanks for the heads up gentleman
