Got out for a ride today with the temps in the low 40s when we rolled out. We stopped for one of our friends to change out his glove, get going again and I hear a constant tick coming from the front end. Pull over to check it out thinking maybe a rock caught in the tire tread (wishful thinking anyways). Turns out the front brake rotor is cracked. Eased it home using only the rear brake. Time for new pads and rotor.

I hope the bolts come right out. You should buy new bolts but many people will add that they have successfully re-used theirs. For the piece of mind just but the newbies.

I've been looking at new rotors and believe it or not your Loco HD dealer has a great price on floating rotors. They look good and solid with nice size rivets... All for a $buck39. can't beat it anywhere. their on my list this spring....

Thanks Tom! I have an impact driver, so hopefully that will break them loose and I'll be sure to use new bolts when replacing the rotor.

Thanks Fatboy I have 48000 miles on it. I'm not sure how common it is for a rotor to crack.

I didn't think they'd been overheated. No brake drag or pulsing. That rotor and the pads are going to be replaced. I don't screw around with safety items like that.

Solid rotors will warp out from heat long before floaters will. The heat is not transferred to the center or mount as in a traditional rotor increasing it's longevity of staying true.
