Friend at work has a 1996 road king with 50,000 miles asking $5500. Is that a good deal you think. No problems that I know of. Husband passed and she is selling the bike.
Only thing that kind of worries me is the mileage.
I wouldn't worry to much about the low mileage 1996 would be an Evolution Engine they are great bikes. $5500 seems a little high but if its real nice probably worth it.
How much you think it's worth? I wouldn't pay that just because. But you won't find one around here cheaper probably I say another dame year and everything with 51000 for $6900. I don't know if it's just a better market around here. I am in virginia. You won't find a harley big twin around here less than 5 grand.
I would like to pay as least as possible and would probably do 5 grand at best. But I just checked kbb and nada and the avg retail is very 6 grand. What book are you looking at?
Yours is what a dealer would list the bike for. Even they can't actually get that retail price. $5150 is the trade-in price and what a private seller can expect to get for the bike. You can play the low ball game, but at the risk of losing the bike to another buyer.
Does it light your fire, or could you really care less?
I have one and love it. For $5K that thing wouldn't be for sale for more than about 10 minutes around here. Don't worry that kind of mileage assuming the guy took care of it.
I wouldn't worry about the miles, but more the condition, and the market in your area. Our market is flat right now, so there are deals. Small items can add up quickly, unless you have good sources. I've bought 96s & 97s for $2500 - $5000 depending on the condition.
Also you started with FRIEND and husband died. If she needs the funds and is a good friend, I wouldn't negotiate too hard (just saying).
I bought a 97' Road King last August, it had just over 36,000 on the clock, carbed and in great shape. I gave the old guy 6 grand for it, he wanted more but the cash made the deal. I consider myself lucky, I looked over a year before buying it.
