Hello Guys, I have 1997 Ultra Classic that I have replaced the stock radio with an aftermarket head unit, therefore making my intercom system unuseable. Has anyone replaced the center console where the switches are with something else? Looking for something smooth just to clean up that area. Thanks in advance. Peace , Don

I took my CB off. Then I used the gasket as a template to cut a piece of Plexiglas the same size, that I then covered with a vinyl that matches my 2-up seat. the seat looks like western tooled leather, so that's what the console looks like as well. I glued the vinyl on and rolled it over the edges of the Plexiglas tucking it underneath and then bolted it to the console. The bolt heads in this pic are stainless, but I've since changed them to black cap screws.
Looks good Tom. One question, was there any issues with removing the cb plate and what did you do with the wiring? Just cut and cap the wires? Thanks Don

I removed the entire system. Took the tank, seat, fairing, bags, side covers, etc. off and removed all the wiring. I hate lose wires that "dead end." The only thing left are the handle bar switches, and I've been thinking about wiring one of them into a garage door opener. Yeah, I know. It's starting to sound like the Touring forum in here.
Actually, I should I should offer up the handlebar switches to the guys on the touring forum as "garage door opener switches." Probably be a hot commodity over there.
I'm planning to get one of these, not too expensive to give one a try. Both our bikes are listed as the same size. How they're described:
89-07 Road & Electra Glide Dash Insert Decal Features:
Fade & UV Resistant
Corrosion & Water Resistant
Premium Polyurethane Domed Gel Top
Fantastic Glossy High Res Graphics
Peel & Stick
Automotive Grade Adhesive Backing
My intercom/radio panel just unpluged on my '89 FLTCU. Here's a pic of the underside:
Top side.
Only pic of the panel I could find, cropped from a rain pic. Just downright ugly.
I'm ditching the radio/tape player, intercom, cb and speakers, just dead weight and a bunch of extra wires and switches to get in the way to me. My phone plugged into a helmet com will do everything I want, and probably better. Amazing how much wiring I can eliminate making a new harness.
Yes Tom, if you can sell anything it would be over there in touring land.lol. Imold that may be worth a try. Please post some pics when you get yours done and I will try to do the same. Hope they are durable. Thanks for the input. Peace Don

I am wanting to do the same thing with my 97 Ultra. I have after market head unit with bikertronics adapter harness. If I do away with the center console will my handlebar controls still work?
