Been doing some reading and came across something that makes me want to ask the question.
On an upto 1992 evo bigtwin the sprocket spacer is flat on both ends where as on 1993 Ultima case up ( to where not sure) the one end of the spacer has a bevel which must face the tranny. Anyone know why this was changed this way? Thinking the Ultima case really doesn't come into play but thought I better give that info.
Also the fifth gear sprocket wedding band oil seal is different from the upto 92 compared to 93 to newer. Saying this is the fifth gear sprocket swappable between the 89 case and the 93 Ultima case?
Reason I'm asking is I have a 93 tranny in my bike which has given me lots of leaking and shifting problems and I have my original transmission gearset and case which I rebuilt which I'm considering reinstalling which had no issues.
Guess the link didn't work for ronnies to the direct schematic page. I did compare the 5th gear between the 91 and 93 and the only difference is the 35029-91A added on the 93. And although the number for the OIL SEAL, MAINSHAFT FIFTH GEAR is the same on both years I know for a fact there different which now leads me to believe I have a newer than 93 tranny presently in my bike. More investigating to do.
Just want to give this a bump. Anyone have any definate knowledge as to if the older 89 5th gear can be swapped in the ultima case with the newer 5th gear ? I know they both use different seals but thats all I know right now until I take it apart.
So it appears there no issue with swapping the 5th gear newer with the old style as long as I switch the entire gear set. The newer gear set has more teeth and definatley less meat to the teeth, I was talking to evo mechanic and he had told me up to 92 or was it 93 Remington was making parts for Harley then they took the less costly route with another supplier.
If it were my bike, I would go with the OEM gear set and main drive gear.
Use `94 and later pulley components (spacer, oil seal, quad seal, nut and lock).
Make sure you use a new ball bearing in the case.
For those who haven`t done this, do not drive the main drive gear out of the ball bearing, use a puller. The lip on the case is very thin, and can break.
