There are several different styles of the clear plug and the main thing is having one that will get as close to the flywheel as possible without rubbing . If it's more than 1/16" away, it's nearly impossible to see the mark with a dual fire ignition.

I'd be curious to hear your and reasons for timing @ 20 degrees by the double dots @ 1000 rpms. Not disputing the method, but I've never tried that and have never spoken to anyone who has, successfully. Always went by the 35btc single dot.

The 2 dots are per my service manual. Ive seen and read my share of forums about how this is incorrect but thats what it says. The bike runs strong with the jetting I have in it now, its just odd how it doesn't run as good with the stock jetting of 42/175 (CV40).

I can totally appreciate that.

As mentioned, they all act a bit differently. HD dyno runs all new engines and the ones that make the most power generally get put in Police bikes. The ones that don't make advertised power go to the recycle bin, literally. So, no argument about "they are all a little different."

You may have done this already but if not, have you timed them at 20/2 dot @ spec speed and then rev them above 2000 to verify the 35btc dot is centered? Please, not trying to be controversial here, just curious

Yes sir I have. Like I said the bike runs reallybetween strong, zero issues with running.

I was just dumbfounded about the difference between the two engines.

I always thought that since both are configured identical that they'd need the same jetting.

I learned something new, this not ALWAYS going to be the case.

My bike gets such good gas mileage that it has become a problem.

I have to stop every 100 miles or so and drain gas from the tank so it won`t overflow.
