Thanks for the help. Orderd the thunderheader today, waited on the gaskets to hear back from you guys. Got plenty of time though, the pipe is out of stock till may 1st. A few more weeks she'll be sounding good!!
Thunderheader showed up early! Have never changed header pipes before, only slip-ons. Used the tapered gaskets, and after reading a tip somewhere on here, used a flat washer to push the gaskets in evenly. The pipe came with a bracket to replace the stock one, so the transmission side cover had to come off, and the oil filler cover too. She smoked a little around the exhaust ports when she first fired up. Thinking it was the anti-seize on the cylinder head studs, or the gaskets seating in. Rode her around 80 miles, re-torked the studs twice, haven't heard any leaks. She sounds great! (Like a Harley) kind of a deep tone with a nice bark. Have heard many people say they're too loud, but i don't think they're too loud at all. My wife can still hear me yack to her while riding together, I wouldn't mind if they were even louder. Bought the heat shields too, but personally think the pipes look better without. Put them on anyway. Just wanted to update y'all with my first 'up grade' am more proud to hear her run now.
Ten four, my indy only had the stock type, will try the copper ones next time just to see the difference. And thanks about the bike, picked her up a year ago with 38,000 on it. She's a 96.
Thanks guys, it will be cool setting it up in the future. Am learning all the time reading on here, how everybody's building, maintaining, troubleshooting em. Btw - the installation instructions for the pipe said i may need to re-jet, (increase main and reduce the low speed jet) as far as I can tell she's running good. I warm it up good before leaving the house, and she still hickups 2 or 3 times, but now with the new pipe she hasn't done it once. The previous owner said it was jetted for higher elevation. So I'm thinking it's fine.
