Look at the pics, what is this thing? What does it go to? It is all gross, crusty, & falling apart. This can't be good! It is seemingly somewhat held together with cheap electrical tape. The previous owner has spent many years hacking up the wiring, now I am tasked with un!@#$ing all the moments of stupidity.
I do have the deuce style rear lights (combination brake / turn signals). Could this be the 5 to 4 wire adapter? These are used for trailer wiring when a vehicle has separate turn signal & brake lights.
If someone can please tell me what this is, I will buy a new one and install it ASAP!
I agree that is a mess, but I suggest removing all that sticky tape to see what clues there are under it. The black plastic connectors look as though they may be stock, or perhaps someone earlier in it's life used them to add that thing. Of greater concern are the coloured connectors, which are later. Looks much too fancy to be any sort of modern flasher module.
Unplug it and see what your missing for lites etc.
Good advice! I unplugged it and the tail lights went out. It is the adapter for the deuce lights. I will likely just use a UHaul unit I have sitting around collecting dust and soldier the wires to the connectors.
