Default Pinging under load

Ok I have searched and researched this but am still unsure. I have a freshly broken in top end. 10.1 Pistons alon with an ev27 cam. I get some pinging if I hard throttle on lower rpms. My carb has a 48/185 combo. I just put in a d146 on clip 3 from the top to see if that helps.. I believe it helped some but didn't fix it. I'm thinking a 190 main. Should I just put my stock needle back in with some washers instead of the aftermarket one. Almost forgot timing is spot on

Pinging is timing.
If you have programmable timing the go to the next curve.
If you don't just retard it a little.

or install a VOES as that is what it does - stops the motor from pinging

i believe it retards the timing some dont - but advancing the timing will make it ping even more with a motor that is pinging

Did you check your VOES for proper operation? It should cut timing in low vacuum conditions like when yours is pinging.

I have not checked my voes. I will do that before I adjust the timing.

you can dig out the seal and adjust the voes to give you a quicker drop in timing under open throttle - vacuum gauge and screw driver the higher the number the quicker it drops the timing off - it does come back on at a higher RPM yes

IMO the EV27 is a tad small for 10 to 1 compression...may have to modify your VOEs and or back off the timing some to get it not to ping.

And make sure you're running premium gas.

We have plenty of gas stations with 93 up here. I'm gonna retard my timing a few degrees tonight and see if that helps.
